The Fredericksburg Christian Health Center is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Although most of our patients have private health insurance or Medicare, about ⅓ of our services each year have been dedicated to those who cannot afford health insurance. From 2003 to 2019 FCHC has provided almost 50,000 appointments to patients without insurance, giving away well over $5 million dollars worth of healthcare services.
We provide the same high quality health care to patients with or without insurance, charging those on our charity program a minimal fee based on household income. To qualify for the FCHC uninsured program household income must be less than 200% of the Federal Poverty level.
With the expansion of Medicaid in VA in 2019, FCHC is now incorporating the care of Medicaid patients as part of our charity care. Although Medicaid does pay physicians, the reimbursement rates are far from adequate to cover the expense of providing quality health care. Most Medicaid reimbursements are $30-$50 short of overhead costs for each visit. For this reason most doctor’s offices don’t see patients with Medicaid, or only see a very limited amount of Medicaid patients. This makes it difficult for patients with Medicaid to find a doctor willing to see them. FCHC previously limited our care of Medicaid patients to 5% of the practice, but now have no limit on the number of Medicaid patients we will accept. With the Medicaid expansion, we anticipate that 30-40% of our services will be to patients with either Medicaid or no insurance at all.
“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.” -Proverbs 19:17

"When did we see you ill or in prison, and come to visit you?" And the king will answer, "I tell you this: anything you did for one of my brothers here, however humble, you did for me."
